Welcome to TSJC’s 2012 Summer NRA Program

On behalf of the Trinidad State Junior College Gunsmithing Dept. and the NRA, I would like to take this opportunity to invite you all to walk in the footsteps of our founder the legendary P.O. Ackley and participate in the 2012 NRA Short Term Summer Classes offered by the oldest Gunsmithing school in the United States. If you have ever wanted to learn a skill from the masters or challenge yourself to go beyond what you thought you were capable of, or have that first kindling thought of Gunsmithing and working with firearms, here is your chance.

Our one to two week courses offer all of the above from introductions to Gunsmithing and machine tool classes to advanced tool making and machining practices and advanced shooting and competition technologies and strategies. Our instructor list reads like a who’s who of industry specialist to world class firearms makers and world class shooters.

Test your skills at first time firearms repair, or stock refinishing and bluing. The machine shop will train you in the art of lathe and mill work. Learn everything from state of the art benchrest blueprinting techniques, to 1000 yard competition tactics from the best in the nation, or sit in with the masters from the American Custom Gunmakers Guild, and learn the skills that make the firearms look like the metal was poured into the beautiful wood that encases their finished products.

The NRA Short Term Classes offered at TSJC, are as much a social experience as they are a learning experience, with friendships made that last a lifetime. The classes may end at 5:00 but the social life goes on until the wee hours, as students head out for group dinners with their instructors, and go over what was and practiced that day. Trinidad State Junior College is located on the edge of the Rocky Mountains and the Highway of Legends with one of the most scenic views of any community college in the nation that make the learning environment second to none in the country.

As the NRA Coordinator I am proud to offer some of the classes you see listed below, taught by some of the most experienced gunsmiths, gun makers, artisans and competitive shooters from across the nation. We at Trinidad State Junior College and our friends at the NRA hope you accept our invitation to practice your 2nd Amendment rights and enjoy a learning experience, and a stay that will be a pleasant and memorable one.
